Delbert “RAS” Harris aka Lil Raskull is one of the original pioneers of Christian Hip Hop. He is the leading artist to bring Houston, Texas to the national stage in the genre. Before accepting Christ, RAS was a mainstream rap artist who was nominated for a Sammy Davis Jr. Award for his song “Thank God” off his first independent album in 1995. With that release RAS enjoyed newcomer industry success out selling artist such as Tupac, Master P, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony in the southern region (RIAA documented). That very same year RAS was led to devote his entire life to doing God’s will, and in early 1996 he signed with a Texas based Christian Hip Hop label called Grapetree Records (EMI). RAS became the leading artist for the label and by 2000 Grapetree Records became the number one Christian Hip Hop recording label in the world (based on notoriety and sells).
During the time RAS was signed with GT his 1998 release, Gory to Glory, was nominated for “Best Rap Album of the Year” by the Dove Awards, RAS appeared on television networks Day Star and TBN, and he was one of the first CHH artist to appear in Source Magazine, Rap Pages, and Billboard Magazine.
Ras has sold over one hundred thousand records and has appeared all over the nation sharing dates with artist like Tye Tribett, The News Boys, MC Hammer, Cross Movement, Da Truth, Tedashi, Lacrae, Kirk Franklin, and many others. Many notable CHH artist credit RAS as being their first experience with Christian Hip Hop (Tedashi, Derek Minor, Dre Murray, etc.).
Scholastically RAS holds a Bachelors of Science in Political Science and he is an ordained minister under Last Call Prison Ministry where he labored with founder, Jesus Lopez, for over 15 years now. RAS has a successful marriage of over 17 years and four children ranging from the ages 12-17. Although there are many things RAS has accomplished, the two he holds dearest is his family, and his art. He believe excellent art has the power to change lives.
